From business card to website: what your first page actually needs

Your first website might already be in your pocket.

That business card or brochure is a useful starting point. Here’s how to turn it into one clear page people can visit, understand and act on.

A simple business card sits on a lower stone step leading to a matching one-page website illustration.

You hand someone your business card. They tuck it away, remember your name later, and want a little more information. What do you do? Do you work in their area? How do they get started?

A simple website can answer those questions in one place. And your business card or brochure may already contain much of what it needs.

Start with the useful bits

Your first page should help someone:

  • Understand what you do and who you help.
  • See your main service or offer in plain language.
  • Check practical details, such as your service area or opening hours, where relevant.
  • Find one clear next step: call, email or make an inquiry.

A genuine photo of your work or a relevant customer comment can help too, if you have permission to use it. Include the details people need to decide whether to contact you. Save the long company history for another day.

Give the card a little breathing room

A printed card has limited space. A single page gives you room to explain the offer, answer a common question and make contact details easy to find on a phone.

It also gives you a link to share in social posts, messages and future printed material. One place for the basics, ready when someone wants to know more.

Build from what you already have

C2E Studio is preparing a managed starter website service, with a template-based starting point and C2E-managed hosting. Your business card, brochure and other material can help you prepare the details your site needs. The service is coming soon; public signup and checkout are not open.
